| I began making videos since two years ago. I have during a long time studied with the recordings, which is a very good way, before working with videos. The advantage of videos is that you can transcribe the fingerings used by musicians. Being able to recognize notes is one thing, but finding the appropriate fingering pattern is very important. In my desire to improve myself, I watched a lot of videos from YouTube. That's how I managed to play more songs that I was not playing correctly. This is a long work that I'm always doing, and I post lessons online when I consider them satisfactory. With the development of videos on the internet, we have access, as a musician, to very important informations that we had not before. I understood many things by watching others doing. It is true that it takes a lot of time, to research and look at the slightest movement, but this work pays ! All the guitarists I see teach me something new. And now when I'm playing, I get rich from all these influences and gradually I discover my own playing style and my own way of doing. When it becomes natural the results becomes good too ! |
| That's how I worked for years. When I want to play a song, I look first the original recording. I listen to the arrangement, I mark the tone, what the guitar is doing, the progressions... Then I look for live performances. In live everything is different, and when you're looking to live performances, you rediscover the song in a different way and it allows you to a better understanding. Then I'm looking for a unplugged and if possible with just the guitar. When I found this in video, I try to transcribe the best of what I see and what I mean. Enriched several recordings and thus a real knowledge of the piece, I can easily find items that I miss on the video. Once you understand the playing of a musician, you can understand what he is doing even if the video does not show you. This work is very long but very interesting. Subsequently, when I play the song, there are passages that I run in my way because it suits me better. I always try to compromise between respect and ensure the sound score. I hope my advice helps you make better progress during this long journey, the practice of the guitar. Malero. |
